Sustainable development isn’t a zero sum game
by Tim Wilson, October 9, 2009
Earlier this year The Australian had an editorial highlighting the stupidity of protectionist policies in a global marketplace and supply chain. It was an excellent point. And a similar point has been raised by the International Policy Network and Dan Ikenson from the CATO Institute in their new paper No Longer Us versus Them (insert link). The message of the paper is simple – There is no one product that goes from development to production within a single country, so by having trade barriers countries are simply harming the competitiveness of their own industries. I wrote a foreword to the Australian version of the report. A copy can be found here.
