Apparently boycotts aren’t designed to harm business

I was startled to see a letter to the editor from the Malaysiankini website from NGO, NatureAlert, arguing that the campaigns against the palm oil industry aren’t designed to close the industry down. I’m not really sure what they are supposed to achieve then. I wrote a letter to the editor in response highlighting that pushing consumer boycotts won’t have any other impact, and the cost will be worn by the 1 million odd Indonesian and Malaysians who are dependent on the industry for their livelihoods.
